Inspiration
Tazkiyah draws inspiration from the following Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad to define its vision and mission.
Abu Huraira reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Who amongst you is fasting today? Abu Bakr said: I am. He (again) said: Who amongst you followed a funeral procession today? Abu Bakr said: I did. He (the Prophet) again said: Who amongst you served food to the needy? Abu Bakr said: I did. He (again) said: Who amongst you has today visited the sick? Abu Bakr said: I did. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Anyone in whom (these good deeds) are combined will certainly enter paradise.
This Hadith underscores the virtues of fasting, attending funerals, providing for the needy, and visiting the sick. These actions encapsulate fundamental principles of social services and community welfare within an Islamic context.
Here’s a brief summary of how each of these actions aligns with the mission of Tazkiyah.
- Fasting: Fasting during Ramadan is not just a physical act of abstaining from food and drink but also a spiritual practice that cultivates self-discipline, empathy for those who are less fortunate, and a deeper connection with Allah. It can be seen as an act of worship that promotes personal growth and compassion for others.
- Following a Janazah (Funeral): Attending a funeral, offering condolences, and supporting the bereaved family is an act of compassion and solidarity. It provides emotional and social support during a difficult time, reflecting the Islamic value of caring for one another in times of grief.
- Feeding a Needy Person: Providing food to those in need is a fundamental act of charity (Sadaqah) in Islam. It demonstrates generosity, empathy, and a commitment to alleviating hunger and poverty within the community.
- Visiting a Sick Person: Visiting and caring for the sick is considered a virtuous act in Islam. It shows compassion, empathy, and concern for the physical and emotional well-being of others during times of illness.
By using this Hadith as a guiding principle, Tazkiyah not only promotes these virtuous actions but also incorporates them into its approach to mental health, social services, and community wellness. This approach not only addresses the immediate needs of individuals but also fosters a sense of community, empathy, and social responsibility, which are integral to the well-being of any society.
